PCR materials have historically been significantly more expensive than virgin materials. However, increasing demand driven by factors such as taxes on the use of virgin materials in several countries has led to a greater supply of PCR materials, driving down market prices to a level only marginally higher than virgin.
Ocean Waste Plastic is a PCR material, and since it is collected from ocean and rivers, it is naturally more expensive than conventional PCR, which is typically land-based and often collected through controlled waste streams (from private households, deposit systems, etc.). However, as Pack Tech and our subsidiary, ReSea Project, handle the collection of plastic from ocean and rivers ourselves, including sorting, there are no expensive intermediaries involved, which significantly reduces the sales price. Additionally, in combination with the avoidance of expensive middlemen, we are operating with many tons of collected plastic each month. This means that we have achieved economies of scale, enabling us to offer our Ocean Waste Plastic (OWP) at the same price as conventional PCR.
